acupuncture in Naperville

balance your physical and mental health

Are you struggling with...

  • Acute or chronic pain?
  • Mental health issues?
  • Substance use disorder?

an ancient technique

for modern times

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine technique. In recent decades the benefits of acupuncture have been extensively evaluated and tested. Now, coupled with modern applications, acupuncture is regarded as an effective treatment for a wide range of health complaints.

yes...

it is sticking needles in you (!)

and much, MUCH more!

When it comes to acupuncture, many people think first about needles - the good news is that they are surprisingly tiny and painless!

Over time you will find that acupuncture works on the whole person – balancing Mind, Body and Spirit which is integral for optimum health. You may come to work on a specific pain, injury or illness, but the effects will be more far reaching.

Even if you think it sounds like woo woo (like I did!), this technique is surprisingly effective.

acupuncture changed my life!

Hi I am Lauren, and I am passionate about this form of treatment for a very personal reason… After years of struggling with substance use disorder and mental health issues, I stayed at an inpatient treatment facility in New Mexico. I was offered acupuncture and my actual words were “that $#!^ doesn’t work”!

They informed me that not only was acupuncture treatment effective, but it was already included in the price (!) so with nothing to lose, I made an appointment.

At the first appointment, when the very first point was activated, I had an experience so profound that I found my own calling in life. I wanted help others access acupuncture for their own journey’s to better health.

questions about acupuncture in Naperville

What is acupuncture?

The physical practice of acupuncture involves sterile, single-use needles placed into the skin at specific points.

This stimulates the body to heal itself. The points of insertion are on channels (or meridians) linked to specific organs and system.

What is an acupuncture session like?

In our Naperville acupuncture centre, our initial visit is an hour and half and we sit and chat, I ask a lot of questions! I will build up a story of your health and during the final 30 minutes, I do the acupuncture based on what is going on for you at the time and what your health goals are.

I have options in my office for people to sit in a comfortable recliner or to lay on a massage table. Some people like for me to stay with them, but others want to just chill out in the room alone. I let YOU, the patient, decide how you want to use your acupuncture time.

After I place the points, you can close your eyes and relax. Some people will fall asleep. It is generally a deeply relaxing experience.

Follow up sessions are 1 hour – again we talk first and then I choose the points based on your health needs.

Do the acupuncture needles hurt?

The quick answer is, NO! Acupuncture needles don’t hurt! Under a microscope, a Chinese medicine acupuncture needle is thinner than a strand of hair. They are not typical needles that you may encounter in life or in the medical profession.

the acupuncture needles are tiny
the acupuncture needles do not hurt
there are virtually no side effects

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

There is no one size fits all because every person is different, and every issue is different. I suggest 3 sessions as a starting point, if after 3 sessions we can’t see obvious progress, I will help you find other options. The whole idea is to be getting better!

My motto is: “I want to see you, and then I don’t want to see you, because when I don’t see you it means you are better.”

What should I wear to the Naperville acupuncture clinic?

Here in Naperville IL, I practice a type of acupuncture called The Balance Method. I typically ask people to wear loose clothing and layers. I will need access to your legs from the knees down and your arms from the shoulders down.

Most people will stay fully dressed and I can usually push clothing out of the way when needed.

Is acupuncture effective for mental health?

Yes! While the benefits of acupuncture for physical health is widely known, the benefits of acupuncture for mental health are being discovered worldwide. Giving more options to those struggling with mental health issues.

A 2013 study came out with the conclusion that acupuncture was just as good as counseling for depression. It can be an alternative and/or a complement to conventional medication/treatment for mental health.

For acupuncture in Naperville, IL we have a big focus on recovery, mental health and pain management both physical and mental and we are excited to share this journey with you.

Do you accept insurance?

Currently, for acupuncture in Naperville, I do not accept insurance directly.  There are a couple reasons why I don't:

  1. In the State of Illinois, there are not many insurance carriers that cover acupuncture.
  2. I want everyone to have access to acupuncture with me and not be bound by who or what your insurance carrier approves.
  3. I offer a sliding fee if needed because I have always said that money should not be barrier to care.

If you check with your insurance company and they cover acupuncture I am happy to provide a "superbill" (fancy name for an invoice with codes on it)

acupuncture at Joyful Balance has literally
been life-changing for me.

I came to Lauren two years ago with daily, debilitating head, and neck pain. My anxiety was off the charts because I spent months with doctors who were running test after test trying to figure out what was causing all of my unmanageable pain.

Month after month, the pain continued and I still had zero answers. Acupuncture provides pain relief almost instantly. Over a course of a few months, my pain became less frequent and my anxiety started to come back down to a normal baseline.

I still continue with acupuncture at least twice a month to help maintain my state now. Lauren is always so caring and cognizant of her patients’ comfort levels. I frequently refer to her as a magician and apart of my dream team. She is absolutely a superstar in acupuncture! I truly don’t like to even pretend to think of what my life would be like today without acupuncture!!

Lauren is an amazing human!

Smart and enjoyable to talk to. She made the whole process painless and relaxing. I was nervous about doing Acupuncture but she ensured me that it doesn't hurt and it doesn't! I feel so relaxed and most of my discomfort was gone right away. I look forward to my follow appointment!

Acupuncture and Lauren have changed
my health and self-care game!
